PDC is a relatively young winery – Pietro founded it in 2012. We stumbled upon them during our very first trip to the region, when we didn't yet know the world of prosecco all that well. A friend had told us that Cartizze represents the absolute pinnacle of prosecco – and as it turned out, they had visited PDC themselves just a few months before us.

So on the second day of that first trip, all we knew was that somewhere around here we'd find the best of the best. A beautifully renovated winery, modern design inside and out.

This wasn't the usual kind of tasting. You could feel the modern professionalism from the moment you walked in – and for good reason. The entire winery operates on a fundamentally different philosophy, where everything – truly everything – is subordinated to quality.

It was a genuinely unique experience to encounter a place like this after visiting so many classic estates. What struck us most was that Pietro truly breathes in sync with his vineyard. I'm fairly sure he knows the age of most of his individual vines off the top of his head – the oldest, by the way, is 112 years old.

In their words

"The art of winemaking is not merely a simple recipe; rather, it entrusts the winemaker with the task of bringing out the potential and uniqueness of his vineyard."

— Pietro De Conti
