Toni Doro Prosecco – Small-Batch DOCG Wines from Conegliano Valdobbiadene
The courtyard was completely quiet, just a cat running around in circles. After a moment, a lovely older lady appeared – the "mamma".
A few minutes later Massimo appeared, in all likelihood fresh from a siesta, but he immediately invited us into the tasting room. Family photos covered the walls, awards everywhere, and proseccos lined up on the shelves. They make three wines, including an Extra Brut.
What's remarkable is that Massimo and his family produce around 12,000 bottles a year, every single one with extraordinary care, and they still harvest by hand even in plots where everyone else switched to machines long ago. The family has been in the wine business since the 19th century, and the winery was named after their grandfather, Toni Doro. Until now they barely exported at all – working almost exclusively with Italian restaurants – making Hungary the first place to which, through us, they ship in any meaningful quantity.
"By ‘tradition’ we mean our history, which has endured since the end of the 19th century, as well as our close ties with the region that has welcomed us and the land entrusted to us."
